A Better Day Out, Delivered Digitally

Heritage Park is one of Calgary’s premier tourist destinations and one of Canada’s largest living history museums. Across 127 acres of parkland, it brings nearly a century of Canadian history to life through immersive outdoor exhibits, demonstrations, rides and seasonal events.

The park began a multi-year digital experience strategy with a focused first release built around one clear goal: improve the on-site guest experience. The priorities were helping guests find their way, understand what was open and happening, and discover the stories behind each exhibit.

The Challenge Across a 127-Acre Open-Air Site

A living history park spreads its stories across dozens of historic buildings, rides and daily demonstrations. Heritage Park needed a digital layer that would make the estate easier to navigate and deepen interpretation without competing with the authentic physical experience.

  • Help guests orient themselves and discover exhibits across a large outdoor estate.
  • Extend interpretation beyond signage so more buildings and artefacts can share their stories.
  • Complement the character of a living museum with a useful, unobtrusive digital companion.
  • Launch in both app stores ahead of Heritage Day, one of the park’s busiest weekends.

The Heritage Park App, Powered by n-gage.io

Heritage Park launched a fully branded native app for iOS and Android, themed to its identity and managed through the n-gage.io operator platform.

Interactive Site Map

GPS-enabled wayfinding places exhibits, rides, facilities and amenities on a custom illustrated map, helping guests orient themselves and discover more of the park.

Exhibit Explorer and Richer Storytelling

Guests can browse collections, facilities, events and trails, with text, imagery and media allowing every historic building to tell its story beyond physical signage.

Visit Planning and Live Information

Personal itineraries, daily event schedules, real-time opening information, menus, news and practical visitor information help guests make the most of their day.

Control for the Heritage Park Team

Structured onboarding gave the park and its creative agency control of content, menus, events and map points, without a development cycle for routine updates.

A Launch Measured in Weeks, Not Years

The operator platform was provisioned within 24 hours of signature. Brand and onboarding work ran through May and June, content was built across June and July, and the app went live in both stores on 30 July 2026, in time for Heritage Day weekend.

  • 10 weeks from signed contract to launch in both app stores.
  • 24 hours from signature to a fully provisioned operator platform.
  • Two app stores covered from day one: iOS and Android.
  • Core content cached on the device to keep the experience useful in areas with patchy connectivity.
  • Consent-based behavioural analytics designed to be reported in aggregate.

Client Testimonial

Working with the n-gage team made what could have been a complex project feel incredibly straightforward. From onboarding through to launch, the process was collaborative and well supported, and we were able to get a fully branded Heritage Park app into the hands of our guests in just ten weeks. We’re excited about the opportunities the platform gives us to enhance the guest experience and continue developing how visitors engage with Heritage Park.
