Key takeaways
- A focused first release is easier to prepare, maintain and explain to guests.
- Clear ownership of content, training and guest promotion supports a smoother launch.
- Early feedback and a small set of measures help the park improve after launch.
Start with the season you need to deliver
The months before a new season are already busy. Accommodation is being prepared, recruitment is underway and teams are finalising programmes and opening arrangements.
Introducing an app into that schedule can feel like another substantial project. It becomes more manageable when the team agrees what the app needs to achieve first and who will make each part happen.
Your first release does not have to contain every future idea. It needs to be reliable, useful and ready for the guests who will arrive.
Choose a small number of priorities
Begin with the outcomes that matter most to your park. Do guests struggle to find their way around? Does reception answer the same questions repeatedly? Are activities difficult to discover?
Those priorities might lead to a first release focused on a map, practical information and a current programme. Another park may start with a different combination.
For each priority, identify the guest task and the person responsible for the content. Agree how you will tell whether the change is useful once the season begins.
This keeps the project focused on the experience you want to deliver.
Prepare the information guests will rely on
Bring together the material needed for launch: maps, facility descriptions, opening times, activity details, contact information and images.
Check that content is accurate and written for guests who do not know the park. Explain prices, suitability and booking arrangements where relevant.
Some information will change frequently. Decide who will maintain it, how updates are approved and what happens when a colleague is away. An excellent launch quickly loses value if the programme becomes outdated.
Test the whole guest journey
Before promotion begins, ask colleagues unfamiliar with the setup to complete realistic tasks on their own phones.
Can they find directions to accommodation? Check tomorrow’s activities? Understand how to book? Find help if they have an access question?
Test the links into your existing reservation or activity systems as well. Where an integration is planned, confirm its scope and test changes, cancellations and the information actually returned.
Include different devices and accessibility needs in the review. Keep a clear record of issues, owners and decisions before launch.
Give your team a confident introduction
Reception and guest-facing colleagues need to know how the app helps and where its information comes from.
Keep training practical. Show staff how to find the answers to common questions, explain the download process and report an error. Activity and food teams should be familiar with the content relevant to their areas.
Invite their feedback. If a team member cannot easily demonstrate a feature, a guest may struggle too.
Plan how guests will hear about it
Introduce the app at moments where it solves an immediate problem. Pre-arrival communication could offer help planning a stay. At reception, a map or current activity programme may be the most relevant introduction.
Use clear wording on signs and links so guests know what they will find. Provide other ways to access essential information and support for those who cannot or prefer not to use the app.
Review the first weeks, then build
Choose a few measures linked to your initial priorities: use of the map or programme, common enquiries, guest feedback and staff reports of content issues.
Review the findings with the teams who maintain the information. Improve the points where guests hesitate, then consider which additional experiences would add the most value.
A launch is the start of an ongoing service. A focused first season gives your park a practical foundation for developing it.
